Quick thought today on success
Quick thought today on success

Hey, quick thought today.
The brand that shows up everywhere wins. Even if their product isn’t the best.
We’re all focusing on creating something novel and innovative - when the focus should be on familiarity.
People don’t buy the best. We don’t even comparison shop anymore.
People buy what’s credible: and what’s credible is what’s the most visible, it’s already in their mental inbox, so to speak. Innovation with invisibility is failure. You don’t have to invent the future… that’s almost impossible to predict and even harder to build.
Business isn’t a meritocracy anymore.
Amazing products are relegated to the dustbin of history every minute of every day.
Those with an audience will survive.
Buyers are looking for trust.
Trust comes from familiarity. People buy what they’ve heard of and what feels right to them. They buy the companies they relate to. Familiarity breeds fondness - it’s the exposure effect at play.
Specifically for those groups reading:
New entrepreneurs: early on, the noise you make creates the signal to proceed or not. Be known, make noise, be everywhere and see if the market signals demand for what you’re working on. Get this signal first, before substance. Substance can catch up after you start seeing demand.
Established corporations: the next innovation sprint isn’t going to turn things around. You’ve got to be out there, everywhere. You have to be perceived as the team that’s rewriting the future - you don’t actually have to be 10X better than the competition. You need a 10X perception shift. Be seen and be loud. Thought leadership, visibility, momentum - be the company that shapes the narrative.
Advisors, educators and business mentors: your program doesn’t have to be innovative or overly complex. Your audience simply has to feel as if they know you. Trust brings them in the door. Your visibility on their social feeds and in the local community is your deal flow. Sinking money into an innovation overhaul isn’t the answer.
Universities: if you’re visible, you’re credible by default. Students are buying you more than what you offer.
This phone I am using, probably not the most technically capable.
The shoes I’m wearing, not the most comfortable.
The car I am driving, not the most technologically advanced or fuel efficient, not the best car to avoid massive depreciation.
The university I chose, not the most amazing curriculum.
Why did I make each of my selections then?
Success is awarded to those who speak the loudest and make themselves known.
