It used to start with a domain name. Now this is the big decision.
It used to start with a domain name. Now this is the big decision.
Hello, Aron here,
For two decades, starting something meant locking up a domain name as step one. “It all starts with a domain name”. Remember that? Once an amazing business idea landed in our brains, we’d spend hours (sometimes days) searching available domain names for the right fit. That initial decision, “what domain name should I buy”, used to represent the starting point and our official commitment.
Today, the first decision isn’t what domain name to buy.
It isn’t even which website builder to use.
The first decision now is whether you are going to build anything at all.
We’ve found that people don’t start with an initial commitment anymore, they start with curiosity about their idea and themselves.
I want to start something, is my idea any good?
Am I cut out to start a business at all?

The funnel in 2026 looks like this:

We’ve learned that the founder journey now is quite fragile.
Today, founders start with curiosity. They explore categories, they talk with AI tools, they compare their possibilities. It’s more of a conversation, not necessarily a plan just yet. It’s exploratory and unstructured.
Next comes validation. Before founders build anything, they want another set of eyes on their idea. Is my idea worth building? Does this hold up under pressure? Am I building something too obvious? What are others like me doing? This is where ValidatorAI lives as a testing ground before commitment. But what we’re really doing is helping shape this 👇
The identity decision comes next, and it is the most important part of the flow. Half of the field disappears here. 50% tell us they seriously want to build something. The other half continue in exploratory mode, sometimes indefinitely. This step has nothing to do with idea quality, as we’ve seen. This is simply the moment when someone asks themselves if this is really them. Am I really going to do this?
This is where commitment comes in. 22 of every 100 people that come into the flow move forward to build. But here is the interesting part: Those that decide to move forward, do it quickly. 88% launch forward within a few minutes. Hesitation doesn’t fade slowly; it seems to break all at once. And this is the magic moment for a founder.
Then is it a matter of execution. Only now does a site builder, domain name or other paid tool get chosen. The thing that used to be the first step in the founder process is now the last. It is the visible tip of a much longer hidden process that companies and facilitators downstream never see.
The decision today isn’t what domain to choose.
It is if I am the type of person that should be building something in the first place.
Today, the real bottleneck sits between steps three and four, the identity decision and the commitment that follows it. That moment doesn't happen in a single prompt; it often occurs over days, sometimes weeks as this process is invisible to other platforms.
This journey also isn't a straight line.
Founders loop back, second guess, pause, return, and sometimes restart entirely.
The number worth remembering
Half of all founders genuinely want to build something, around a quarter actually do. The gap between those two numbers is about whether someone crosses the identity decision.
👉 If you're sitting on an idea right now, you're probably somewhere between steps three and four. That's normal. That's where almost everyone gets stuck.
The question is if you're ready to decide this is really you.
If you’ve decided YES, I want to make this real:
