What Happens When Founders Explore Ideas More Deeply

In partnership with

Hello, Aron here with ValidatorAI.com

We grouped our startup founders into two engagement buckets based on how deeply they interact with the platform.

Engagement Score 2: moderate exploration
Engagement Score 3: deeper exploration

Then we analyzed how these two groups behave while exploring their ideas. The below behavior is interesting. Which founder type are you?

Newsletter Reading Behavior

Average Newsletter Opens

Engagement Score 2 █████
Engagement Score 3 █████████████

Higher engagement users read more than twice as many newsletters.

This suggests that many founders spend significant time consuming startup content while they explore their ideas.

When it all clicks.

Why does business news feel like it’s written for people who already get it?

Morning Brew changes that.

It’s a free newsletter that breaks down what’s going on in business, finance, and tech — clearly, quickly, and with enough personality to keep things interesting. The result? You don’t just skim headlines. You actually understand what’s going on.

Site Exploration

Average Site Pages Visited

Engagement Score 2 █████
Engagement Score 3 █████████

Score 3 users browse significantly more pages across the platform. They are more likely to explore tools, read articles, and navigate through different sections.

Time Between Idea Iterations

Average Time Between Validations

Engagement Score 2 █████████
Engagement Score 3 █████████████

Higher engagement founders take longer between idea validations, which I found to be interesting.

This suggests they spend more time thinking and researching before running another validation.

Build Progress Behavior

Users Who Proceeded to Builder Tools

Engagement Score 2 ███████
Engagement Score 3 ████████

Higher engagement users are slightly more likely to move toward building something. This shows that deeper exploration does not dramatically increase the likelihood of building.

Idea Quality

Average Idea Score

Engagement Score 2 █████████████
Engagement Score 3 █████████████

Idea quality is almost identical between the two groups.

Higher engagement founders do not necessarily have stronger startup ideas. They simply spend more time exploring and researching them.

Validation Behavior

Average Validation Runs

Engagement Score 2 █████████
Engagement Score 3 █████████

Both groups validate their ideas about the same number of times. The difference between the two groups is how deeply they consume startup information.

AI Prompt Behavior

Average Prompt Length (AI Tokens Used)

Engagement Score 2 ███████████
Engagement Score 3 ██████████

Interestingly, deeper exploration does not mean longer or more complex AI questions. Higher engagement founders ask the same kinds of questions.

What This Means for You

You might recognize yourself in one of these groups. Some founders spend more time exploring startup ideas, reading advice, and researching. Others move more quickly from idea exploration to building. Both approaches are normal, and our members are evenly split among the two groups.

The founders who eventually launch something tend to make the shift from startup idea exploration to small experiments. That doesn’t mean quitting your job or launching a company tomorrow.

The next move can be something simple, like:

  • building a landing page

  • testing demand

  • talking to potential customers

Progress usually begins when you take the idea outside your own head, and into the world.

If you are completely stuck, we can help you generate an idea and test it, safely:

👉 Generate a new concept with the Business Idea Generator
👉 Validate your idea with our Startup Idea Validation Tool

Remember, you are valuable - your personality, skills and the way you see things are uniquely yours. It’s pretty epic.
