We score every startup idea that comes through. Scores measure customer clarity, problem specificity, and market viability. For eight straight months, May through December 2025, average scores sat flat between 65 and 69.

Then in January 2026 they jumped 15% and have held there ever since.

Why? Our first instinct was AI.
Late 2025 is when AI-assisted ideation went mainstream and a well-prompted ChatGPT can make almost any idea sound specific and well-reasoned. That's a real factor we can't rule out.

But something else happened in November and December, right before the jump.

We shifted our newsletter content.
Instead of general advice we started publishing more specific analysis on what strong ideas actually look like. The specific customer framework. The strong vs. weak input breakdown 👇. The "who is your first customer" exercise.

Did our content cause the jump? Probably partly.

Did AI tools help founders articulate their ideas better? Almost certainly also yes. The honest answer is both, and separating the two is difficult.

What we're looking at next: do founders who leave, read newsletters and come back score higher than their first visit?
If so, that suggests the platform itself is changing how founders think.
